Fundraising Pendant Design for SAS

This June we celebrate a quarter of a century of Justin Duance Jewellery!

We came together as a team to dream up ways to celebrate our silver anniversary as a business. Our plans touched on our local community, our lovely customers, the team itself... And we wanted to do something to give back.

We chose to make a Limited Edition silver pendant with all the profits going to Surfers Against Sewage, a brilliant charity who stand up for our oceans - do check them out if you aren't familiar with their work.

To come up with the pendant, we had a little in-house design competition. We wrote a small brief, and any member of the team could submit a design. The team at SAS would then shortlist three designs, with the final winner chosen by the public on our Instagram account.

The Brief
"To make a unisex pendant, drawing inspiration from ocean/coastline pollution and the heritage of Justin Duance Jewellery."

We were so chuffed with everyone's designs. So many great ideas! We were pretty glad we'd decided to hand over the difficult choice of choosing just one!

Justin's design used found beach plastics as an integral part of his playful design.  Issy's design was an abstracted shape of Cornwall, referencing climate change and the erosion of our coastlines.

Sophie's design connected SAS & Justin's passions for surfing. Cast in sand, it would take on the look of something washed up. The five droplets represent our five oceans.

Jana's design referenced the beauty and importance of clean water and its rippling movement. Jamila's design encouraged the wearer to interact with their surroundings, highlighting the microplastic on our beaches.
Andy's design celebrates the important work of the humble cockleshell.

SAS shortlisted Issy's Coastline Pendant, Andy's Cockleshell and Jamila's Sea Foam Locket - with the Locket winning the 'People's Vote' on Instagram!

Justin got to work turning Jamila's drawings into reality, and the Sea Foam Locket was born!

This Limited Edition pendant will be launched very soon, with all the profits going to Surfers Against Sewage.
