Our favourite things to do around Penzance
We are very lucky that so many people travel to come and visit our jewellery workshop in Cornwall. It's quite the pilgrimage all the way down to Penzance - just a stone's throw from Land's End! We thought we would share some of our favourite things to do around Penzance, for those of you that make a little holiday of your workshop visit! A little locals guide to West Cornwall from the team, to you.
Visiting gardens
Our workshop is just outside of Penzance, across the road from Trengwainton Garden, a beautiful National Trust garden with a stream running through it.
Just down the road, you'll also find Trewidden Gardens which has a great café with a sprawling lawn, perfect for summer afternoon teas!
There's also Tremenheere, rather wonderful sculpture gardens, with stunning sea views across the bay. As well as a great restaurant, an art gallery, a lovely gift shop and home to surreal succulents.
That's to name but a few close to us. We really are spoilt for choice here!

Pottering around Penzance
It's easy to spend a day pottering around Penzance. Wander along the beautiful prom by the sea, where you may be tempted to join the locals for a dip from Battery Rocks.
Enjoy a spot of shopping on Chapel Street, Market Jew Street and Causeway Head. Here you'll find lots of lovely shops to poke around in - from great vintage and charity shops to lovely lifestyle shops, as well as health foods, plants and bookshops.
The best coffee to be found in town is arguably at Joel's little Round House at the top of Causeway Head, we highly recommend accompanying it with a canele. Speaking of sweet treats, Loafs make insanely tasty giant pastries - and pretty good pasties too!
Did you know that Penzance was the first town in the UK to be awarded the Plastic Free Community status by Surfers Against Sewage? As such, you'll find that lots of our businesses are more than happy to refill your own containers, cups and bottles.

Walking to Mousehole
This walk will take you through Newlyn, a busy fishing village, home to our favourite restaurant and the more humble beginnings of Justin Duance Jewellery - some of you may remember visiting us in our fishing loft back before 2015!
It's a beautiful and easy going walk, simply following the coast around to the picture perfect village of Mousehole. There's some great swimming spots along the way. Keep an eye out for dolphins and seals in the bay and enjoy a well deserved drink at the Coastguards at the end. There's an easy bus to Penzance if you don't fancy the walk back.

Walking to Marazion and St Michaels Mount
Take the opposite route along the coast and once you are past the bus station, you'll find yourself on a pleasant beachside path towards Marazion and St Michael's Mount. There's a couple of pit stops along the way, with the Hoxton Special and Jordan's café both serving tasty food and drink.
Long Rock beach is a huge dog friendly beach, but watch out, at the little river it becomes Marazion beach which does have dog restrictions.
When you reach Marazion, at low tide, you can walk across the Causeway to St Michael's mount and visit the castle and gardens. If the tide is high, there's a little boat that will take you across.

Longer coast path walks
We all love a coast walk, and you can't really go wrong around these parts. It's all pretty beautiful. Carrying on from Mousehole, the walk to Lamorna is a favourite, there's a bit of everything: high cliffs, tiny woodland, streams, a fair few steps and a pub called The Wink at the end. You can make it a circular walk by coming back across the fields to Mousehole. Fun fact, you'll find hundreds of us on this walk on Good Friday - a long-standing tradition that is said to have been a firm way to meet your match back in the day!
Walking from Sennen to Lands End is also a nice one, and a preferred way to seeing Lands End without engaging with the somewhat odd amusement park that it is.
A little further away, the circular walk around Looe Bar near Porthleven is a nice one too - although one side can be a bit flooded if there has been a lot of rain. There are lots of nice places to eat in Porthleven too.
You can essentially set off on a walk from any point along our coast and not be disappointed!
Beach day
It goes without saying that our most favourite thing is a beach day. We have some of the most beautiful beaches in Penwith!
Sennen is a firm favourite and often has good surf. If you don't choose the sand your sandcast ring is cast in, our go to is Sennen sand - and each one still turns out completely different.
The beaches around St Ives are beautiful; we recommend getting the train from Penzance or St Earth - it's one of the most beautiful train journeys in the UK and saves you the hassle of parking!
Porthcurno is famed for the Minack Theatre high above the beach, nestled within the cliffs. It's not one to miss, whatever the weather, it's a beautiful beach.

Climbing Trencrom Hill
Climb to the highest point in Penwith! Admittedly, it's not actually that high, but you can see both coasts on a clear day, which is pretty cool.
Visiting an Art Gallery
Spend your afternoon wandering around various art galleries in almost any of our local towns.
In Penzance, Cornwall Contemporary is free and often has lovely exhibitions. The Exchange Gallery is a great choice too, and has a sister gallery in Newlyn. As such, is perfect paired with a walk along the prom to visit both.
Venture down a little backstreet to find The Small World, a hidden gem in the heart of Penzance that shouldn't be missed.
Penlee House is a gallery and museum, within Penlee Gardens in Penzance, that celebrates the art and history of West Cornwall. Not to be missed if you are a fan of Newlyn School and Lamorna artists.

Enjoying a bite to eat
If you follow us on our socials, you'll know that we love a feast. We've put together a more in depth list of recommendations of places to eat here. But our favourites locally are Argoe for super fresh sustainably caught seafood cooked on the grill (with great veggie options too!) and the Honey Pot in Penzance for breakfast, lunch or a snack.

Going out for a couple of drinks
Penzance once had the most pubs per capita in the country (not fact checked!), and while we can't claim that crown any more, we do still have some brilliant pubs and more recently some rather lovely cocktail bars too! Some of our favourites are The Turks for a cosy drink by the fire, The Crown and The Farmers both have a great community vibe and open mic nights - as well as occasional bands in the latter, and free snacks on Sunday nights! The Benbow is a bit like being inside a pirate ship and certainly worth a visit too.
If you're in the mood for a fancier tipple, then 45 Queens Street or Pocketful of Stones are the places to go.
Don't forget to book your appointment with us!
Now you're feeling thoroughly inspired to come and visit our neck of the woods, don't forget to book your appointment to visit the workshop and choose a piece of jewellery. You may even want to collect the sand for your piece while you're out on one of the beaches.
We have a handy calendar you can book through, or alternatively give us a call on 01736 367254, and we'll pencil you in.
Do check out Love Penzance for further ideas on how to turn your workshop visit into a little holiday - be it for the day or more!
