Sandra's Story: A ring inspired by Cornwall
"My husband designed me a ring for my birthday, and we wanted a Cornish jeweller to make it, as the design was inspired by our home in Cornwall. Justin is a local jeweller with an international reputation (and he had also made my daughter's wedding rings) so we went to the workshop to visit him.
I wanted to see the clear depths of the beautiful Cornish sea whenever I looked at my ring, and so we chose an aquamarine as the centrepiece stone to reflect this. I wanted it to be a modern, contemporary design, but still show that it was influenced by Celtic heritage, so we also added a Celtic plait in the three different colours of gold to wrap around the band. We wanted the aquamarine and the plait to be the main focus of the ring, and thought that having the band wider with rimmed edges like a border emphasised these parts of the design.
The final piece is one of my favourite rings as it exactly fits our commission and has brought my husband's sketch to life.
I love it as it's unique to me and I wear it a lot - I never tire of looking at it."
It's not often that we'll make a piece of jewellery that completely stands apart from any of our collections, but Justin will never turn down a commission that inspires him - so it is always worth getting in touch with your ideas.
